Summer 2008

Dear Friends,

Let me start out with some exciting news from our associate in Toronto, Chris LeConte of Smart Watering Systems.

Last August, Chris installed a RainBird ET Manager at the Boehringer-Ingelheim facility in Burlington, Ontario.

In the first four months of operation, the ET Manager reduced water consumption at the pharmaceutical company by an average of 1.2 million litres per month.

Over the course of an irrigation month, this reduction is the equivalent to 94 low-flush toilets flushing 30 times a day for an entire year.

But the real significance to Boehringer-Ingelheim's conservation efforts extends far beyond the savings on their water bill.

With every million litres of water consumed, 1,060,000 watts of power are expended and 644 kilograms of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere.

Boehringer-Ingelheim's reduced water consumption equates to energy conservation of over seven million watt hours and 4.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

As an added bonus, Pierre Brisson, Boehringer-Ingelheim's manager of building services, said: "Our landscape has never looked better."

Meanwhile, our Canada-wide network of weather stations continues to expand in the East.

We recently activated a second station in Ottawa - at the Hunt Club -- and are currently searching for a third site so we can offer superior weather data to all areas in and around the nation's capital. Our original site at Gatineau continues to operate well. Earlier in the summer we activated our second Montreal weather station - Laval.

It's obviously still too early to give definitive results from our sites in 2008. But we are pleased to learn that preliminary readings at five Calgary industrial properties managed by new client, Tonko Realty Advisors Ltd., show initial water savings of between 53% and 67% against 2007. Also a check of several of our Calgary Superstore installations reported similar initial savings - 52% and 57% over pre-ET Manager results.

We will have more about the efficiencies generated by ET Manager in our Fall newsletter.
