WR-7 Programming FAQ's

What are the critical settings that need to be programmed in the Weather Reach Receiver?

The following settings should be reviewed by the installer:
  • Weather Region - This setting corresponds to the region number assigned to the weather station the weather data signal is coming from.
  • ET Output - Due to a variety of irrigation controllers, the Weather Reach Receiver offers four ET Outputs, ET Enable, ET Trigger, ET Pulse, and RS-232. See the WR-7 Weather Reach Users Guide for more information.
  • ET Window Start   more ->
  • ET Threshold   more ->
During the Activation process these key settings should have been programmed into the Weather Reach Receiver. The installer should have verified these settings to see that all the information was correct and corresponded to the site specific conditions.

If there are problems you may want to contact the installer.

There are other settings, but these are the critical settings that should be reviewed. To see all the settings download the WR-7 Weather Reach Users Guide.

What does the ET Window Start and the ET Window Length settings do?

The Weather Reach Receiver must be programmed to the time of day your sprinkler controller is set to water and how long it takes to complete the watering of all the zones. For example, your controller may be set to start watering at 2:00 am and will continue to water each zone until 5:00 am. This sprinkler cycle takes 3 hours to complete. In this example the ET Window Start of your Weather Reach Receiver would be set to 2:00 and the ET Window Length is 3 hours. The ET Start Window is not used to start a watering cycle but is used to allow the Weather Reach Receiver to control watering during that period.

What do the ET Start and ET Threshold mean?

ET Threshold is the amount of water that must evaporate before the Weather Reach Receiver will allow watering to occur. The Start Threshold represents how many inches (or mm) of water should be applied to your landscape during each watering cycle, which was lost due to evaporation. This is a numerical value based on your soil type and the root depth of your plants. Please see your Users Guide on page 44 for chart information to determine this value.

What should I set the Weather Interrupt values to?

The WR-7 can provide "sensor interrupts" for a sprinkler controller. These interrupts include:
  • Temperature - Enter the lowest temperature that irrigation is allowed. Any time the current temperature is at this value irrigation will be suspended through the Weather Interrupt circuit.
  • Wind - Enter the highest wind speed that irrigation is allowed. Anytime the current wind speed is at this value irrigation will be suspended through the Weather Interrupt circuit.
    Note: Wind speed received by the WR-7 is an average hourly wind speed. Wind gusts or maximum wind are not used to create a Weather Interrupt.
  • Rain - Enter the amount of accumulated rainfall required to interrupt irrigation. This value is compared with the amount of rain recorded for the last 24 hours.
