Commuters pass by a significant system of park strips and landscaping designed to maintain the country atmosphere that helped define the city in its early days. Greenwood Village was once home to a thriving agricultural economy.
In fact, its name comes from the historic Greenwood Ranch. But the days of manually turning on water to its orchards and crops have given way to a robust central control system to manage over 22 parks. And a once abundant resource is now in short supply. Watering restrictions abound throughout the region.
In order to help busineses use water wisely, Denver Water charged officials to reduce water use by 30 percent. City officials lead the effort but soon discovered central control wasn't enough to accomplish this task.
